The Col. Phillip C. Delong Marine Corps League Detachment 1267 recently recognized the next generation of leaders.

During its monthly meeting April 15 at Bacall Recreation, the local Marine Corps League presented several graduating high school seniors with its 2024 leadership scholarship awards.

This year the group awarded a total of $8,000 in scholarship money. Scholarships go to students who excel in academics and show good leadership and patriotism.

“This award is different from others — it’s about leadership. There’s one thing Marines appreciate, and that’s a good leader,” said Ron Hunter, leadership scholarship committee chair.

This year’s scholarship recipients were Villages High School students Elizabeth Boss, Audrey Lupalow and Leighton Luther. Two additional scholarships were awarded to the grandchildren of current members: Maelle Paul, of Oakton, Virginia; and Lisa Thompson, of Flandreau, South Dakota.
